In 1978 the Michigan Speech Coaches Association (the precursor to MSCI) adopted a resolution to create a permanent Hall of Fame for Michigan speech coaches. The list has been maintained for years and a large permanent plaque, with the name of each inductee and the date of their induction hangs in the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. The names of nominees were submitted, without the nominee's knowledge, by members of the organization. Nominees were to have coached a minimum of ten years in the state of Michigan and were to have distinguished themselves in state wide competition in Debate, Forensics, Discusison or Drama. Great care was taken by nominators to articulate the honoree's achievements and accomplishments because election into the HoF had to be unanimous by the officers of MSCA. Not all nominees were elected on thier first nomination. The same standards should be exhibited today. Here is a list of all Hall of Fame members. If you know of a long-time professional in the Michigan speech coaches' community who deserves to be nominated, contact Bette Collins, Historian, or Kirstin Carolin, President to obtain a nomination form and guidelines. These are the men and women upon whose shoulders we stand.
